Toil and Trouble
Progress Report:
1. Stolen Goods: Our insurance company is being very kind and generous in helping us replace our stolen gear. After some dithering around with police reports and paperwork, we have started to be able to replace things. Unfortunately, the camera we have chosen to replace the stolen ones has not arrived yet. We DO still have a Kodak zi6 camera that I have done all the filming for my next episode on, and I started recording the voiceover stuff using my headset mic. It's not as good as the old setup, but it's A setup, so I can get something out of acceptable quality.
2. Release the Magic Smoke: Right after I got everything filmed and uploaded to my Mac, my primary hard drive gave up the ghost. Fortunately, I had Time Machine set up and everything was backed up. UNfortunately, that meant I had to share my husband's newly-replaced iMac, try and repair a lot of broken pathways to my data, and still have to find a way to access my secondary drive with some important footage on it. My husband has been awesome in helping me with this, but the basic upshot of it is, editing together the episode has screeched to a halt.
3. Month of Weddings: Between October 9th and November 13th, I will have run one regular roller derby bout's non-skating official staffing, one 3-team round robin roller derby bout, a special exposition match, attended three weddings, and officiated a fourth wedding. I need to make 2 costumes, one for the wedding I'm officiating (Halloween wedding), and one for an end-of-the-year hoedown (?!) for the roller derby league that'll be taking place later in November. Losing the time I have on Nightmare Fuel really freaking sucks... I was hoping to get Episode 3 posted and Episode 4 made by now. I don't want to lose momentum.
4. Good News: Things are starting to look up, though. One of the things that got stolen was our 8 year old MacBook G3. The insurance company has replaced it with a new MacBook. As this is a processor upgrade in some ways to my aging Mac Pro, we're going to try to set this up as my primary machine. We'll see how well it handles my video-producing needs. I'm just waiting on getting a few things we need to transfer my data over. It'll be nice to have the ability to produce on the go!
Sometime in the next week or so, we should be able to get me set up, and the new camera should get here any day now. I was actually about halfway through completing Episode 3 when my computer blew, so once I'm set up, I should be able to power through and get it done pretty quickly.
5. Happy Birthday to Me: I also had a birthday recently. A friend gave me a gift card that will be going towards a much-needed new microphone. (Stereo, baby!) Even more awesome, however, was the gift that my husband and our good friend Chris Pallace collaborated on. Soon, my projects will all be coming together at http://crazyraven.org ! WOOHOO! My own domain! Bitchin'. Chris will be doing the design work on it, and his skill is mighty. You can take a sneak-peek at it at http://crazyraven.org/CrazyRaven/layout.html ... he went with a rather sexy steampunk-flavored motif for the main page. Now I just have to figure out how to USE it!
So, to sum up, despite some rather sizable setbacks, Nightmare Fuel is going to continue to soldier on, spreading trauma and mayhem as we go. With luck, I'll still get October's episode done IN OCTOBER, and get November's done sometime soon after that.

GAAAAAAH!
Good news: Episode 3 is filmed and in the editing stage, about half finished. I still don't have a good videocamera (insurance process is slow), but I managed to get stuff recorded on our zi6. I was hoping to have it done for the weekend.
Bad news: My Mac just exploded. Piff. Not reading the main drive. I'm hoping that my backup was working right and caught everything, but I know it was tight for space and I think my editing folder was one of the 'save it if you can' parts.
So, I don't have access to my footage, my editing suite, my audio...anything. It's all locked up. Dammit. :( It looks like, if things go well, I'll have it done for next week. If things go poorly- and things were already sub-optimal- it may take longer.

Nightmare Fuel Theater 2 - The Water Babies
Today, we take on a magical musical adventure under the sea... that is moderately magical, not very musical, and not under the sea a whole lot. ; What it DOES have is a metric ton of "What The Fuck?!?"
NOTE: So, my house was robbed last week... They got the camcorder, the good computer, and a bunch of other stuff. I apologize for a couple glitchy bits of video that I couldn't reshoot. Hopefully, I'll get things replaced quickly enough that I'll have an update on time next month... I was hoping to move the update schedule up to biweekly, but that'll have to happen later rather than sooner. Poop. :( On the plus side, I'll probably wind up moving to HD! Yay better video quality.

Blog is live!
Hi! Welcome to Nightmare Fuel Theater, my new show! Episode 1, as you can see, is live! I had some fun with Watership Down, a movie that traumatized me as a kid.
It's funny, I remembered it differently...I could have SWORN I saw a bunny actually get run over. I must have bolted and assumed. Ah well, either way, that movie is Effed Up. It was kind of cool watching it as an adult, though... it's actually a very good movie, the animation is pretty, and the story's nicely involved with some great conflicts. Plus, John Hurt (Hazel) has a great voice, as does Michael Graham Cox (BigWig.) It's just not a good film for the sensitive child. Or adult, for that matter. I threatened to show it to my sister, who replied with a horrified squeal only dogs and maybe rabbits could hear. (Note: my sister is 30.)
I'm working on the next episode right now. It's a movie I remember watching several times as a young kid: The Water Babies. Watching it now, I'm wondering who spiked my Fruity Pebbles. This is BAD. So very bad. Hopefully, you will find my suffering amusing in the end!

Special Note: For those of you who have come here from my work on Queens of King's, take heart- I DO plan on completing the story. It will be a motion comic, and at least the next episode will have a vocal track with it. I just don't have the time to put together the machinema these days. For those of you who would counter that I have the time for Nightmare Fuel Theater, I answer: Putting NFT together, start to finish, took me less time than it would take me to pull together the cast of QoK to do their dialogue. Programming an episode took anywhere from 2-4 weeks of 8-hour days... before having to edit it together. I just don't have that these days. Production of the motion comics will begin at the end of November, when I'll have the time to devote to remembering how to program enough to carry me through the process. Hell, I haven't even played CoH in ages. So, the story will be completed...just not now.
